Biography:
Martin J. Lamkin received his Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and a Bachelors and Masters degree in Music Education from Governors State University in University Park, Illinois. Mr Lamkin joined the Music Faculty at the University of the Virgin Islands in 1986.

At the University of the Virgin Islands, Mr. Lamkin was the Director of the University’s Jazz Ensemble, and performed throughout the Caribbean with that Ensemble. Mr. Lamkin also worked for the Center for Black Music Research Columbia College, Chicago, as the director of the Alton Adams Music Research Institute in St. Thomas, Virgin islands.

Mr. Lamkin has performed with B.B. King, Stanley Turrentine, Ralph Peterson Jr., Donald Byrd, Donald Harrison, the Afro-American Jazz Caucus Big Band, Charles Fambrough, and others.  While living in the Caribbean, Mr. Lamkin also had the pleasure of participating in a performance given by the Boston Pops in St. Marrten. He also performed with the award winning Governors State University Jazz Ensemble.
